Starting from the importance of play in the processes of growth, discovery, communication and understanding of self and others, the paper presents an educational experience developed at the Turoldo primary and secondary school in the popular neighborhood of Le Vallette in Turin. Through didactic workshops, related to past and present playing experiences, students have re-designed the central public space of the district, imagining different games and recreational opportunities able to rehabilitate an urban and social context which is nowadays difficult and in crisis
